Lacrosse is a 10 player sport including the goalie. The objective is to score a goal by carrying a rubber ball on the head of the stick and shooting with it at goal.
A women's match lasts 60 minutes in 4 parts of 15 minutes and a men's match 80 minutes in 4 parts of 20 minutes.

The masculine and feminine modalities differ only in a few rules, however, they are what make them two very different sports in their way of playing. The male has more physical contact and therefore requires more protections and a tactical vision; the female has less contact and therefore requires more technique and strategy.

Lacrosse is a modern version of the North American Indian game of baggataway. Originally it was played by the Six Nations of the Iroquois (New York and southern Ontario). Some tribes had up to a thousand players, the objectives were miles apart, and the game could last several days. Each player tried to defuse as many opponents as possible with the stick he was carrying, and then concentrated on the target.
Among the many tribes, the game was both a mystical ceremony and a sport, accompanied by complex rituals and ceremonial dances. These annual matches were authentic battles in which they settled all the debts that they had during the year with the rival tribe .
The shape of the device used to catch, move and throw the ball was what inspired the first French settlers in Canada to give the sport its name "la crosse" (the stick). Europeans in Canada began playing lacrosse around 1840 and the first lacrosse organization was founded in Montreal in 1842.
